I have been in the IT industry for 20 years, and have collected a large assortment of skills and experience, some of which are quite deep.
With a degree in computing, my technical background is very handy when using the technology and tools required to do my job. Also, I can do techspeak with the programmers.
I have been in the business long enough to appreciate the reality and complexity of the software development process.
Broadly, I have the following skills:
Writing — Writing the words to in manuals, online help, websites, brochures, press releases, newletters, etc.
Editing — Coordinating the material written by business analysts and editing them into user documentation. Outlining the overall structure of the content and identifying gaps.
Graphic design — Making the pictures that complement and enhance the words. I also design and create banners, posters, flags, presentations, icons, logos, business cards, company documents, etc.
Screen design — Arranging controls in a screen such that it flows with the mental process of the user.
Database reporting — Developing database reports using Crystal Reports, SQL Server, Microsoft Access, etc.
Training — Developing training courses and training materials, including trainer materials (presentation, notes, handouts), training workshops, training manuals, exercise workbooks, etc.
